+1 My favorite Shakespeare play would have to be Romeo and Juliet mainly because it's one of the few that I've even read. It's just a really good play in itself. I also like the ending even though they both die. haha yeah, I'm a bit morbid at times. I love Shakespeare's word usage the most.

+1 My most memorable Theatre experience was when I went to see Dracula with my best friend last year. It was so incredibly awesome. All the actors were amazing and the music was to die for. I just loved everything about it.

Thanks for this awesome contest!

+2 I'm combining these two questions into one big long answer. My most memorable theatre experience actually involves my favorite Shakespearean play - A Midsummer's Night Dream. This is why the play was so memorable - the acting was fabulous - and what really stood out to me was that one my classmates played puck - a small stringy guy who just really put his all into it. I still remember when Oberon (sp?) grabbed him by one ankle and could dangle him upside down without his head on the floor. And the actor was so good he didn't even falter in his lines. I just remember so fondly the way he played the perfect Puck. It was also amusing years later (he was a freshman in high school then) that he was nearly 6 feet tall. :) This was probably when I fell in love with this Shakespearean play. Another reason I love this play is Gaiman's graphic novel rendition of it.

+1? I've never seen a play, so my most memorable theatre experience probably doesn't count, but I'll let you decide: My best "theatre" moment involved me, my three bestest friends, and a copy of Hamlet. I read it aloud to them and did a different voice for each character (really hard to keep track!). They were laughing so hard they almost choked, and I nearly strained my vocal chords when the ghosts came along. It was a blast. XD

+2 For Commenting Here:

My most memorable theater experience is when I participated in the production of James and the Giant Peach for my school my freshman year. I ended up playing a crowd member and a cloud person. Being the cloud person was so weird, because we basically looked like giant cotton balls and we had to make our faces really pale. I didn't like it too much because we had to act really strangely.

My favorite Shakespeare play is probably Romeo and Juliet. I just love the story, and one time I got to work on a video project of the death scene with my crush, where he was Romeo and I was Juliet.

Awesome contest :D

I just wanted to say, one time in college I was in ALICE IN WONDERLAND and played the white rabbit. Some crazy director got in his head that I could do a backflip. Um, yeah. Come showtime, I TRIED! Instead I fell off the stage and broke my ring finger.

Everyone thought it was part of the show and I finished the play. Thankfully I wore white gloves to hide the splint the next night. :-)

+1 - My favorite Shakespearean play is Much Ado About Nothing. I love it because while there is not much of a plot compared to the other plays like Hamlet or Macbeth, there is plenty of humor and problems that create enough of a plot to enjoy. The bickering between Beatrice and Benedick is one of my favorite things.

+1 My favorite theatre experience was in high school. I was in the pit for Suessical the Musical. It was great to be able to see how the cast started out and came together to create the show they did. It was also great that I was a part of a musical even though I have no acting or singing talent. =)

My most memorable Theatre experience -- when I was in a play at the age of five (it was a Christmas play but I don't remember the name of it) and I fell flat on my face on the stage and everyone laughed -- that pretty much ended my theatre career :-)

My favorite Shakespeare play -- I like a lot of them but I really love the speeches in Henry V -- very dramatic!

+1 My fave Shakespearean play is Romeo and Juliet cause it is the only one I've read. I do own Hamlet but haven't read it yet.

+1 My most memorable theatre experience was when I saw Hairspray the musical on Broadway in NY. My discovery class went to NY for three days when I was in 7th grade. We had some parent chaperones who were a little ticked at some of the language and sexual references. lol.

So let's start with my favorite experience in theatre would be my 8th grade play when we did HSM, i played the part of Kelsi and had to trip at one point, when i first when to fake trip i ended up sliding off the stage, not too elegantly might i add, and my favorite Shakespeare play is Midsummer's Night Dream, i fell in love with it when i was six and went to see the play (was going through fairy loving phase at this point), i just though the costumes and way they talked was so different so obviously magical that i demanded my father buy me more of this man's work

My most memorable theatre experience? Probably working backstage for a production and having a desk dropped on my toes while we were setting up for the second act, then having that same desk cut my leg when we were moving it back for the next act! It was so hectic opening night with all the crazy scene changes, but still an interesting experience being back stage!

My favorite Shakespeare play is Hamlet! I just love the soliloquies and the many interpretations are all so interesting to consider!

As much as I thought I never had a theatre experience, I actually do. It is quite "memorable" considering two men made out in front of me and my friends (which is a first for me, honestly), and what I mean by made out is REALLY MADE OUT... which made me pretty sure that I will not be forgetting it for quite some time and this might sound cliche but Romeo and Juliet is my favorite Shakespearean play and why? I don't really know, but maybe because it's about love:) Thanks for holding this contest!

My favorite Shakespeare play would probably be Hamlet. I love Ophelia's mad scene - I feel cliche saying that, but there is something so real and terrifying about that scene. I also really love the Romeo and Juliet balcony scene. And the play A Midsummer's Night Dream - the whole play is so funny.

I posted about the contest on my blog as well. (http://thehidingspot.blogspot.com)

My most memorable theater experience had less to do with what was on stage, and more to do with who was sitting in the audience...a famous, heart-throb actor came to the Kennedy center to see a play. On the same night that about 5 private schools had brought their students to the same play. He got gang-rushed by about 500 screaming girls. I hung back and just watched the out-of-control-ness of it all, even though I was of an age that I did have a crush on him...but I certainly wasn't going to act stupid and ruin his night to get an autograph. lol.

Great contest! I'd like to be counted in, please :)
My favorite Shakespeare play is A Midsummer Night's Dream. I think it is not the most romantic play, nor the funniest, nor the most interesting, but it holds certain charm. Besides, when I was in second grade my class and I had to do the play for a general assembly in front of the whole school. I so wanted to have the lead, but unfortunately I got the part of a TREE. Yes, a tree. All I did was wave my branches right and left, and then leave the stage. That was it. But anyway, I've loved the story since then.
Thanks a lot!

My very first theater experience was playing an orphan in a community production of the musical Annie when I was 12. I tried out with over 100 girls and was one of the 7 who made it--talk about an ego boost. Singing, dancing and acting with other girls my own age... I still count it as one of the best experiences of my life.

My favorite Shakespeare play is definitely Much Ado About Nothing, because it's a fun story, plus you pity the characters for not really being able to see the bigger picture (it took faking Hero's death to get Claudio to realize he was being stupid).

My most memorable theater experience was my junior year in high school when we did the play Into the Woods. My high school was well-known for it's good theater department (even though we were a relatively small school), so that meant a lot of pressure during the actual show...especially for people in stage crew like me. There were quick changes, and two other people and I had to hide in a tiny space to lift up the Witch, to make it look like she was floating. It was tiring, and amazing...best theater production we did, too.

+1 Comment on here:
When I was in junior high, I tried out for MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. I wanted to be Titania, but I got cast as Anonymous Fairy Number 3, which ended up being WAY more fun, because we got to just run around the stage and throw glitter around during the random dance sequence the drama teacher made up. In amidst the dancing and glitter, I noticed the sound guy, a guy dressed all in black with a weird name who was a grade below me. I never would have looked at him again, except fate kept throwing us together...and then we started dating in high school...and then we got married, eight years later. We celebrate our second anniversary July 7 (we got married on the infamous 7/7/07 date)...so if I win, that would be about the most perfect anniversary present I could imagine!!

(And can I get a +1 for saying that MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM is one of my favorite Shakespearean plays for the exact same reason?)

My most memorable Theatre experience was just April, actually. It was first time in a production with an audience over 500, and I was SO freaked out. What made everything OK, funny enough, was my costume. You see, I was playing a fairy in Gilbert & Sullivan's Iolanthe, and as part of my costume I had WINGS. I kept them, of course. So I have to say that those wings made the show the most memorable for me.

As for favorite Shakespeare play, that's tough. As an English Lit dork, I love his works. I think I would have to say Othello, though, because I think Iago is brilliant (evil, but brilliant). The way he manipulates everyone is disturbing yet sort of awe-worthy.

Also, I commented on your interview with Lisa Mantchev, I'm a follower, and you're on my blog roll. :)
